State Mandates & Completion Per Minnesota State Law, students must complete six hours of formal Behind-the-Wheel (BTW) instruction to qualify for their Class D driver’s license road test. Session Structure: These six hours are typically completed over three to four sessions. Certification: Upon successful completion of the full six hours, students will receive an eCard Certificate of Completion via email. Scheduling Rules & Restrictions To ensure student safety and proper skill development, the following scheduling policies are enforced: Instructor Consistency: Students must register with the same BTW Instructor for all sessions. If a student registers with a different instructor, the appointment will be removed from the schedule Frequency Limit: To allow for adequate practice and progression, students may not schedule more than one session every three weeks. Multiple appointments scheduled within the same month will be canceled. Permit Requirement: Students must have a valid learner’s permit in their possession for every session. Meeting Locations School Year: All sessions begin at the front entrance of STMA High School. Summer Sessions: All sessions meet at the front entrance of Middle School West.

Behind-the-Wheel Training Only (Password Protected)Are you looking to complete your required driving hours with a certified instructor? We offer comprehensive, one-on-one Behind-the-Wheel training designed to build confidence, teach defensive driving strategies, and prepare students to safely pass their road test. Please note: For a complete driver education experience, we also offer a Total Package that bundles both our classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel training together at a discounted rate. How to Register for Behind-the-Wheel Only: Because availability for individual driving slots is limited, this registration section is password protected. If you have already completed your classroom instruction elsewhere (or online) and wish to take your Behind-the-Wheel hours with us, please reach out to our main office to verify your eligibility and receive the registration passcode. Pre-registration is required. Walk-in's are not allowed. Parent/Student Meetings are completely optional to attend. Students (14½ or older) together with a parent or guardian attend the meeting together. Should you choose to attend, we recommend attending the meeting around the time your student is eligible to enroll in an STMA Driver Education class or have already completed the STMA Driver Education course. If attended, your student will log 40 supervised driving hours rather than 50 hours if the meeting is not attended. Note: Enrolling in the Parent/Student Meeting does not enroll your student in a Driver Education class. The Driver Education class requires separate enrollment. Deadline to Register: October 19, 2026(No refunds after the deadline.) Important Notes: A Certificate of Completion will be prepared after attendance sheets are verified. This certificate will be held at the STMA Community Education Office.
