Youth Mountain Bike Race Ready!

Designed for young racers preparing for the upcoming race season, this class focuses on bike readiness before and during competition. Participants should bring the bike they currently race on or a bike they may be looking to sell or upgrade.

Students will learn how to handle common mechanical issues that can happen during a race and what to do when problems arise. Each bike will be checked for key safety components including headsets, hubs, and cranks; brakes; shifting and chain; wheels and tires; pedals; and the seat post and saddle. If a bike needs parts or repairs that cannot be completed during class, participants will be given guidance on next steps to ensure their bike is safe and running smoothly.

Erik’s passion for teaching began in the late 90s with a youth bike program east of St. Paul. A lifelong cyclist, bike shop veteran, and mountain bike racer, he spent 20 years as a corporate Director of Training, mastering the art of simple, effective instruction. Recognizing the need for riders to be confident and self-sufficient, Erik founded Bjorn Cycling. Today, the organization empowers youth and families with hands-on, approachable cycling education offered in neighborhoods, workplaces, and over ten metro community centers building skills, confidence, and a lasting love of riding.

At Bjorn Cycling, we believe every rider’s journey becomes richer when they understand the machine beneath them. That’s why we teach riders of all ages the essential skills of bicycle maintenance and repair because confidence doesn’t just come from riding, it comes from knowing you can take care of your bike wherever the trail leads. Whether you're brand new to cycling or have years in the saddle, our hands-on workshops meet you right where you are. We cover everything from the simple satisfaction of fixing a flat to the precision of dialing in gears and brakes. More than just technical know-how, each session builds self-reliance, problem-solving skills, and a deeper connection to the sport.
